Known Device-specific Video Issues in Marrow

Please note: These errors are device-specific, meaning that a fool-proof resolution can only be achieved by the device manufacturer. Unfortunately, Marrow might not be able to help. As of now, there are 16 individual devices affected, used by 12 users. 


Marrow Videos work seamlessly without issues in 99.8% devices. Issues might happen in 0.2% devices whose manufacturers are yet to support certain basic hardware requirements and security protocols such as DRM which are necessary for a seamless experience.

1. VIDERR – 1520 – There was a problem playing the video

  • Why: Due to memory issues in Android devices with OS version 4.4 (Kitkat)
  • Affected Devices: All devices running on OS 4.4 (Kitkat)
  • What can you do? Kindly use an alternate device or upgrade your OS version to Android 5 and above.

2. VIDERR 1535FF40 – Codec failed (Redmi Note3, Honor 8X, Redmi Y1)

  • Why: The device/hardware could not initialise the decoder to play Marrow videos.
  • Affected Devices: Redmi Note3, Honor 8X, Redmi Y1
  • What can you do? Kindly check with the device manufacturer for a fix or use an alternate device.

3. VIDERR 1537 – Codec failed ( Honor Tab5, Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, Huawei MediaPad T5, Redmi Note7 Pro)

  • Why: The video codec is prone to failure when it is trying to play DRM videos on certain devices after extended use of videos in Marrow or other video-based apps.
  • Affected devices: Honor Tab5, Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, Huawei MediaPad T5, Redmi Note7 Pro
  • What can you do? Restart the device. If the issue still persists, kindly check with the device manufacturer for a fix or use an alternate device.

4. Your device is not supported to play Marrow Master Classes.  Please contact support for further clarifications (Samsung Tablets running on an older OS version- Samsung Tab3, Moto G play)

  • Why: Your device doesn’t support the DRM technology.
  • Affected devices: Samsung Tablets running on an older OS version- Samsung Tab3, Moto G play
  • What can you do? Try playing videos in the below-mentioned sample app.

    If you’re still not able to play the videos, please use an alternate device or contact your device manufacturer.

5. ERR VID 0005 – Failed to play video (Redmi Note8 Pro)

6. 1536 Codec Failed – Kindly try again (Gionee A1 Lite, iBall Slide 4GF, HTC Desire 10Pro, Acer One 7)

  • Why: Some devices running with custom Android OS 6 & 7.(Marshmallow and Nougat) do not possess the video codec capabilities to decode DRM based videos.
  • Affected devices: Gionee A1 Lite, iBall Slide 4GF, HTC Desire 10Pro, Acer One 7.
  • What can you do? Kindly update your OS version, or change your device.
