How Marrow helped me secure 210/300 in my first attempt at FMGE – Dr. Harit Patel

Scoring 210 in FMGE’21, Dr. Harit Patel (Marrow Plan C User) talks about how he cleared FMGE in his first attempt using Marrow as his primary source.

Hello, I’m Harit Patel. I recently cleared FMGE June’2021 and scored 210/300. It was a great achievement for me because in this current COVID-19 pandemic situation just 3 months before the FMGE exam I was infected with Covid19. And I had very little time of around 3-4 months for focused preparation of my exam.

For exam preparation, Marrow was my primary source. I came across Marrow first time during my 2nd year of Med School through a classmate of mine. Since my school years, I was always more fascinated by watching video lectures rather than reading books. So when I first saw my friends using Marrow during our college days instantly I got curious and started watching the trial lectures and free video lectures provided by Marrow.

After watching the free video lectures and solving QBank modules, I concluded that Marrow was the perfect platform for my FMGE preparation. As this June FMGE was my first attempt, I was a bit nervous about how to prepare and what subjects should I prioritise. I started watching few online videos by Dr. Rohan Khandelwal Sir. Taking some important points into consideration as told by Dr. Rohan sir, I prepared my own revised strategy.

My main motto in preparation was that the subjects which I do, I will do with utmost perfection so that I can score almost full marks in those subjects and cover-up for my weak subjects.

I watched video lectures and simultaneously took down notes and made mnemonics so that I can briefly go through them at the time of revision. I also watched some image-based lectures which helped in quick revision. I kept solving QBanks simultaneously with the lectures. And for those subjects which I couldn’t complete, I watched the rapid revision videos and solved the respective QBanks so that I can cover the extra edge information that I missed during rapid revision lectures.

During the last few days before my exam, the Mini Tests and FMGE Grand-test organized by Marrow were very much helpful as some questions were directly asked in the exam which was like a bonus for us!

Most certainly the FMGE Webinars conducted by Dr. Rohan Sir, Dr. Sakshi Ma’am & Dr. Ila Ma’am were very beneficial for last-minute revision. Since I knew I had very little time for revision, I started correlating and interlinking all the subjects, diseases, and their related topics which helped me to revise my subjects faster. As for the Marrow faculty, I would like to say that all of the faculty are simply the best. Dr. Utsav Bansal sir with his evergreen mnemonics and learning tricks, Dr. Sakshi Ma’am with her comprehensive explanations, Dr. Rakesh Nair sir with his concepts, all made medicine look easy.

I would say that the most important things for cracking any competitive exam are revision, MCQ practice, and frequent mock tests. Lastly, during my preparation and in the last days before the exam when I got struck by anxiety and stress, my only saviors were music, constant support from my parents, and my persistent faith in God from which I got the strength to conquer and achieve my goal.

Thank You & All the very Best.
